Palacio de los Deportes de Riazor – A Coruña | July 14th, 2018 The opening ceremony, which began at 7:00 p.m. at the Palacio de los Deportes de Riazor, marked the start of the 53rd Men’s European Roller Hockey Championships in A Coruña that will last until Sunday, July 22nd. The event was attended by the skaters of C. P. A. Maxia of the Galician city, who have made an exclusive choreography for each of the eleven national teams that participate.
Then the parade of all of them has been made, except Switzerland, to subsequently give way to the municipal authorities and the different sports bodies as well as the organizing committee. The speeches have included José Manuel Sande (Councilor for Culture, Sports and Knowledge of the City Council of A Coruña), Carmelo Paniagua (President of the Royal Spanish Skating Federation) and Ignacio González (Vice President of the Royal Spanish Skating Federation), welcoming all of them to the members of the national teams, the referees of the championship and all the fans who during these nine days will enjoy a great show at the Riazor rink. In addition, Vicente Torres (president of the Galician Federation of Patinaxe), Fernando Graça (president of the European Roller Hockey Committee) and several members of the European Roller Hockey Committee were among those who have been Cesare Ariatti, Lluís Ferrer, Luis Rei, Ricardo Oliveira and Susana Pandavenes.
Spain comfortably defeats England in the opening match
During this first day of competition only a match between Spain and England was played with clear dominance of the host team, which has won 10 to 1, despite the English team was ahead on the scoreboard. For Spain they have doubled Eduard Lamas, Nil Roca and Raúl Marín, with the rest of goal scorers Jordi Adroher, Albert Casanovas, Ignacio Alabart and Ferran Font.
