The 53rd Men’s European Championship of Roller Hockey was presented this morning at the City Council of A Coruña, which for the first time in its history will be held in Galicia, specifically in the city of A Coruña from July 14th to 22nd, with the participation of eleven national teams that will play all the matches in the Palacio de los Deportes de Riazor.
The event was attended by José Manuel Sande, Councillor for Sports, Culture and Knowledge of the City Council of A Coruña; Vicente Torres, president of the Galician Federation of Skating; Carmelo Paniagua, president of the Royal Spanish Skating Federation; and Fernando Graça, president of the European Roller Hockey Committee (CERS-Rink Hockey). All of them had influenced their interventions in the tradition of A Coruña with roller hockey, centralized mainly in the Hockey Club Liceo, but also in the large number of clubs and base players throughout the city and its metropolitan area.
After starting the presentation José Manuel Sande welcoming all present, Vicente Torres said that «from the moment we received the offer to organize the European by Carmelo Paniagua, we accepted it immediately.» Carmelo Paniagua thanked the City Council of A Coruña «the involvement with the European Championship, in addition to the Galician city is known worldwide for roller hockey and that this event will count, for the first time in many years, with the presence of eleven national teams, being also a qualifier for the World Roller Games 2019 that will be held in Barcelona and to which the first three European qualifiers plus Spain will enter as the current world champion.» The cycle of institutional interventions concluded with Fernando Graça, who assured that «it will be a great European Championship in a city with a tradition in roller hockey«. Finally, José Manuel Sande closed the ceremony, thanking once again the trust placed in the Galician city and hoping it will be a success, both organizational and fans presence.
Competition system and participant selections
There will be a preliminary group stage from July 14th to 19th in which a league of all-against-all will be played, from which the first four will be classified for the quarterfinals (July 20th) with crosses between the teams of both groups as follows: 1st A-4th B, 2nd A-3rd B, 3rd A-2nd B, 4th A-1st B.
Group A: Portugal, Switzerland, France, Austria and Andorra.
Group B: Italy, Spain, Germany, England, Belgium and Holland.
The winners will enter the semi-finals (July 21st) and from here the two teams that will compete in the third and fourth place, the losers, and the final on Sunday, July 22nd, the winners, at 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. respectively.

The general adult passes for all matches costs €60, although you can also buy tickets for each day, which allows you to attend all matches, for a price of €10 except in the last two of the competition, whose price will be €25 on Saturday 21st and €30 on Sunday 22nd. For children aged between 0 and 12 years, the cost will be half in each case.
